It had been a long, tiring, internal debate, but Lisa Cuddy had finally decided that food was more important than paperwork at the moment. Although, a couple of case files seemed stuck to her hand as she left her office and headed for the cafeteria. Apparently, the administrative side of her thought she could work and eat at the same time.
Thanking whatever higher power that was listening that it wasn't very busy, she paid for a simple salad and found a seat. Stretching her legs out under the table and crossing them at the ankle, she opened the first folder. Her eyes scanned the top page as she mixed the salad and the dressing together. However, just as she was raising the first bite to her mouth, she noticed a shadow over the table. Sighing, she dropped her fork back into the salad bowl. I can't even eat in peace anymore, she thought, moving her legs back in case her visitor wanted to sit down.

Angel had decided to grab something to eat, as her stomach was growling at her very loudly. She'd just finished her first consult, an older man in need of bypass surgery. She wasn't completely sure who she had to speak to about scheduling the surgery, but she knew she'd figure it out.
Scanning the cafeteria once she picked up a sandwich and cup of coffee, she spotted the Dean of medicine and walked over. "Mind if I join you Dr. Cuddy?" She inquired politely.

Having not bothered to look up before, Cuddy finally chanced a glance at the voice. To say the least, it was not who she had been expecting; it was better. Trying hard not to betray her annoyance at being disturbed, she smiled and nodded. "Of course, Doctor Fraser." Honestly, Lisa hadn't expected to see the newest member of the staff again for a while. Picking up her fork again, she half-glanced at the case file next to her bowl as she ate. "How are you liking your first day?" Now, the smile was forced. If there was one thing she really didn't like, it was obligatory questions like that. Which was why she always tried to get through them as quickly as possible. "Do you like your office?" Taking another bite of her salad, she closed the case file. There was no way now that she would be reading it.

"Please, call me Angel." Angel sighed, shaking her head. She took a seat across from Cuddy and put down her sandwich. Unfolding the plastic carefully, she picked up one half. "First day hasn't been too bad. I've met Doctor Wilson, he stopped by my office." She shrugged, taking a bite of her sandwich. She chewed it slowly, looking over the woman sitting across from her. Cuddy seemed like a decent person, but then again, Angel didn't like people of authority much. "My office is fine, just needs a few personal touches." She added. "Oh, I do however have a question. Whom would I speak to about scheduling a bypass surgery?"

Nodding once, Cuddy moved both case files to the edge of the table so she wouldn't be tempted, then turned her attention back to Angel. "Oh?" she said in response to her comment about Wilson. She was sure he hadn't stopped to just say 'hi'...he was more complex than that. But, she wouldn't pry; she had no doubt that would raise more than a couple red flags with her newest employee. Her eyes widened just slightly at the question.
"Well, you would have to talk to Doctor Chase, he's the head surgeon, to book an operating room. How soon you get in depends entirely on how badly the patient needs it. I can introduce you to Doctor Chase, if you'd like?" Now, this was the kind of conversation that Cuddy was good at. The other kind was arguments; she was competitive by nature.

"Dr. Wilson decided to take it upon himself to warn me about the big bad wolf on campus." Angel chuckled, referring to House and knowing Cuddy would probably understand who she was referring to.
"I would love to meet him at some point." Angel nodded, finishing off one half of her sandwich. "The patient's alright for the moment, but I'd like to get him in as soon as possible. I would like to see him home in time to see his granddaughter's first birthday." She said, poking at the other half of her sandwich.

Ah. She'd figured as much. "Don't worry too much about Wilson. He feels like he has to protect everyone, House most of all," Cuddy replied, pushing her salad around with her fork before spearing another bite. She sincerely hoped Wilson hadn't said too much about the resident medical genius. And she hoped Angel had the sense to keep her distance. Nothing good could come from being too involved with House.
"I believe he's out today, but he'll be back tomorrow. His department is on the second floor," she informed. Of course, Chase's people could probably do the surgery without him if need be. But, as long as Angel's patient was okay, there was nothing to worry about at the moment.

"Always nice to know that there are doctors who care about other doctors' well being." She nodded, wrapping up the other half of her sandwich. Raising an eyebrow at Cuddy's comment about Wilson worrying about House, she knew she'd have to figure out that reason as well.
"Then I guess I'll check in with him tomorrow and schedule something." Angel nodded, after Cuddy informed her that he was out. "I'm sure he's top of his field, working here and all."

Well, that was an overstatement if she'd ever heard one in regards to Wilson. Not that she'd say that out loud, of course. Even hospital administrators were allowed to have private thoughts, after all. So, she simply agreed. "Makes everything run more efficiently. People work better knowing that someone is looking out for them."
"Of course, if worse comes to worst, you could talk with his people. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to answer any of your questions," Cuddy replied. Of course, she had no doubt the other surgeons would do just that if it was required of them. "Yes," she agreed. "Chase is one of our best. House taught him everything he knows." Sure, she thought that would pique the young doctor's curiosity even more if it hadn't already, but it was meant to reassure her that Robert Chase knew what he was doing and could most definitely be trusted.

Nodding, Angel glanced down at her watch. "Shoot, I've got a meeting with another patient in twenty." She sighed, shaking her head. "It was nice talking with you Dr.Cuddy," She smiled, standing up as well as picking up her coffee and half sandwich. "I'll get in touch with Dr. Chase tomorrow." She added. "Have a good afternoon." She smiled, turning to head back to her office to drop off the sandwich before her meeting.

Knowing the feeling, Cuddy smiled encouragingly and nodded back. "Good luck with the rest of the day. We'll talk more another time." Half-glancing at her half-eaten salad and the two case files under her elbow, she felt a twinge of regret at not getting anything done. Just a small one, and she pushed it down. There was still plenty of time to work. "I'll let Chase know to expect you when he comes in tomorrow." It was only fair, after all.
