Allison Cameron was not having the best day. In fact, you could pretty much say that her day was horrible. She had been called in early in the morning, for she had been the doctor on call, for a car crash with victims that were hardly holding on. There were four victims, and out of the four, three had died within two hours of her attempts to save them – the fourth, and probably the luckiest, was barely hanging on through surgery as she stood on top of the roof.
The concept of death was nothing new to her; she had been there before, and she knew that it wasn’t easy to overcome. But that’s why she had become a doctor, right? To be able to get over the affects that death would have? The purpose of a doctor: to save lives. She could faintly begin to imagine what the families of the teenagers were going through right now. Whatever it was, it wasn’t pleasant.
Cameron rubbed her eyes, trying to recollect herself. This was the job she had signed up for once she had resigned from House – she knew that it wouldn’t be easy, so she should suck it up. But, regardless, it was still hard. She grasped the edge of the rail, overlooking the hospital and the surrounding scenes.
The beauty of it was amazing. Snow didn’t cover the ground, thankfully, but instead, it was covered by a light layer of rain, for it had rained the night before. The smell of spring was in the air – the soft, calming sensation of morning dew, and the sense of change. She had been faintly aware of everything going in the hospital; she had shut herself out recently, trying not to be brought into House’s shenanigans and other things. It was hard, but it had been easily done.
Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes, taking in the effects of the surrounding areas. The breeze was light, and it was perfect for clearing her mind. Cameron couldn't help but wonder why people hardly came up here, recalling slightly of the patient who had come up to the roof, almost ready to jump off...

Cuddy sighed. It had been a paperwork day. As in nothing but paperwork. Patient files to sort for the departments, budget reports that had to be filed, clinic hours to total, performance reviews to read. Cuddy needed to take a break before the small black text on the white paper burned her retinas. There was only one place she could go where no one would think to look.
Pausing just before opening the door onto the roof, Cuddy turned her pager off and put her cell on silent. She did not want to be called for a consult. Not when she was trying to get away from work for a few moments. Assured she wouldn't be interrupted by another doctor, she pushed the door open and stepped out onto the roof. And who should she see but another doctor. Sighing heavily, she closed the door and walked across the concrete of the roof to the other's side.
"Nice day, isn't it?" Cuddy asked, glancing at Cameron out the corner of her eye, hoping she wasn't bothering the other woman.

"Nice day, isn't it?" Cuddy's words had caught her off guard - she was used to the hospital roof being practically empty, short of a couple of patients who were suffering from a brain dysfunction. She smiled at Cuddy; since day one, she had always liked her. She was one of the limited (maybe more like, only, not counting Wilson) people who could semi keep House in line - not that it ever stopped him from doing whatever he pleased.
Cameron nodded, still taking in the perfectly tranquil surroundings around her. It was nice to get a refreshing moment to breath; a lot had recently happened in the past couple of days. She took a quick look at Cuddy, who appeared to be just in the dire need of getting away; it made her crack a smile.
"One of those days, huh?"
[blah. my muse has been failing all night.]

|aw. i know how that feels >.<|
Cuddy hadn't just been trying to make small talk. It actually was pretty nice out, even considering the previous night's moderate rainfall. But then, Cuddy supposed, it was the evidence of rain that made the skyline as breathtaking as it currently was.
"One of those days." Cuddy nodded as she answered. She'd dumped what she could on Norman as she'd left her office, hoping he'd make some decent progress while she was taking a much-needed breather. She really needed to take these breaks more often. It would be good for her. "Norman is handling most of my paperwork right now, though." Cuddy sighed, breathing in the crisp almost-spring air before turning to look at Cameron.
"What about you? I'm sure you're not just up here for the scenery."

"One of those days. Norman is handling most of my paperwork right now, though." That made Cameron smile - the poor guy. He would be swamped with paper-work soon, especially since House worked at this hospital. Her attention focused to the city of Princeton, taking in it's beauty. "What about you? I'm sure you're not just up here for the scenery."
Cameron thought about that for a moment, carefully thinking on how to answer it. She didn't want to bring up the touchy subject of death, unless it was with a family member; mainly it was because the events from this morning echoed in the back of her mind and her heart.
"Just one of those days ... Though, the scenery is beautiful," She said with a small laugh.

Cuddy sighed. The whole hospital seemed to be having 'one of those days'. She wondered if most of it wasn't because she was in a less-than-pleasant mood. She'd read somewhere that if the boss was in a bad mood, the employees would be too. But then, seeing as she'd had hardly any contact with her employees all day, she somehow doubted that was the case.
"So," she started, searching her mind for something else to say. "What's new with you?" Catching up sounded like as good an idea as any, since there didn't really seem to be much else to talk about. Of course, Cuddy knew she'd have to share, too. But she wasn't sure how much she would be expected to say.

"So, what's new with you?" Cameron turned to face Cuddy, breaking her focus away from the scenery around her. She thought about that for a second before turning her attention back to the scenery, putting her straight blonde hair up into a ponytail - she had let it loose as soon as she had come up. She knew that she'd be heading back down to the emergency room fairly soon - half of the people could hardly function without her.
The blonde doctor shrugged, what exactly was new? Everyone pretty much knew what was up. Nothing ever seemed to change.
"Not much, I guess. How about yourself?" She brushed her bangs out of her eyes, catching a glimpse of her engagement ring. Mentally, she cringed when she saw it - the last time she had been married, it resulted in the death of her husband. Would that happen again? She hoped not; that would be too painful to bear.

Ah, Cuddy thought to herself. It looked like planning was under wraps. That was fine with her, really, if that happened to be the case. Cuddy had enough on her plate as it was; offering to help Cameron plan her impending nuptials would be a bit much at the moment.
"Well," she started. She was sure she could mention something in passing...as long as she didn't mention any names, she should be fine, right? "I'm seeing someone." She bit her lip. She'd already told Cameron that no one should be involved with House. Now that she'd admitted that she was with someone, she hoped the blonde wouldn't pick up on who that 'someone' might be.
It was true enough that Cuddy and House had been secretly seeing each other for almost two months, and she was sure someone would figure it out soon enough, but Cuddy hoped that if she played it like she'd only just gotten together with someone, they could keep the secret a little longer.
"But that's about it," she added, casting a sideways glance to the other doctor.

"Well, I'm seeing someone. But that's about it." Cameron raised her eyebrows at her boss. Seriously, Cuddy was seeing someone?! She hadn't expected that. Cameron couldn't help but wonder if it might be House, seeing as the two harassed and harassed each other till no end. Not to mention the fact that Chase had told her about the double negative answer when he had been worried about the case awhile back ... But she let it slide. Should she be jealous? No, she was engaged to a perfect man; besides, she wasn't even sure who it was. Just a nagging suspicion in the back of her head; nothing to even confirm it.
"That's great!" She put on a smile. "I'd ask who it is, but I'm getting the sense you're probably not telling. Shameful Cuddy, hiding your man." Her tone was joking. Truth be told, she was happy for Cuddy - Cuddy needed someone to be with her, especially through the tough times of running a hospital. But that nagging thought wouldn't leave her mind. Instead, she tried to think of her wedding - and that would definitely get her mind off her wandering suspicions.

Smiling, Cuddy was grateful that Cameron had decided not to ask who it was. She didn't think she could stand being labeled a hypocrite. Even though she'd been with House for a while before telling Cameron not to ever get involved with him. But then, Cameron had been right at the time. Cuddy had been marking her territory, in a way. She supposed it was just her motherly instincts telling her to protect her family. 'Whatever works' she told herself.
"I would tell, but I'm getting the sense that he wouldn't like it too much," Cuddy joked back. "He's...possessive." Her lips tilted in a smirk. With the way House had been acting ever since they'd found out about her pregnancy, 'possessive' had to be the understatement of the decade.
Of course, even if House wasn't possessive of her and their child, Cuddy would have no intentions of telling Cameron that he was her secret boyfriend. Of course, thinking about her child brought on the often automatic movement of her arms to wrap around her lower body. Which, at this moment in time, was likely to be noticed, since it wasn't all that cold outside.
"So..." she started, trying to think of something to say to move the subject away from her love life and coming up empty.
