Angel sat in her office, bored out of her mind. Of course, she could do paperwork, but that would mean actually working and her mind really wasn't in it. Sighing, she got up and moved around her office with her crutches, grumbling as she did. Making a mental note to bring in a couple of books that weren't medical journals, she turned on her stereo, flicking through her collection of CDs that she left at work.
Finally settling on a random CD, she put it in and let the music fill the room, making sure to keep it low in case someone knocked on her door. Moving back to her desk, she opened her solitaire game and began to play.

Take a left, and then a right....
They were simple enough directions, but even so, James was surprised when he found his way to Doctor Angel's office without getting lost, or tripping over anything.
The whole afternoon had been a blur to James. He had passed his first intern interview....That fact had yet to sink in.
He knocked once he found the right door, and stood back a little, waiting for a reply.

Hearing a knock on her door, Angel looked up, wondering who might be coming to see her at this time. Maybe it was one of the other cardiologists who needed a second opinion, or it could just be House coming to bug her.
"Come in." She called out to her mystery guest. She didn't bother to look up right away until the person was actually in her office. For now she was content with winning her solitaire game.

Once he heard he could come in, James opened the door and stepped into the Cardiologists' office. His shoe squeaked on the floor, and he looked up smiling awkwardly.
Her eyes seemed to be focused on her computer screen, and James hated to disturb her, but House had told him to come. He hoped she had been expecting him..
“House wanted me to come see you,” he said. “He had a meeting, or something. I’m his new intern, James Nelson.”

Angel looked up as the intern came into her office. "Pleasure to meet you Mr.Nelson. " She said, motioning for him to come a seat. "Did Dr. House mention why he wanted you to come see me? Because I don't know what I could do or say to you except good luck." She continued, wondering what kind of meeting House would have to pawn off his new pet on her. Maybe something to do with Cuddy? Letting her mind wander, she realized maybe she didn't want to know what kind of meeting was going on.

James shook his head, feeling very awkward now. "I'm really not sure why. I think he was trying to get rid of me. I kind of doubt the seriousness of their meeting..."
He suddenly shut up. "I did not just say that. Oh, man. First day...first hour on the job and I say something rude about my boss. Mind not repeating it?"

Angel let out a chuckle, not wanting to let slip anything that could be used against House or Cuddy. "I think House just wanted me to play babysitter for you so he could go do other things. Like harassing nurses and other doctors."
Leaning back in her chair, she looked over the young intern. "I promise I won't let anything slip. Cross my heart." She chuckled, realizing the redundancy of her comment. "So, what brings you to Princeton Plainsboro?"

“Thanks,” James sighed gratefully. “Sometimes my mouth seems to say things without my brain’s consent. A bad habit of mine. I suppose it would be a good habit to stop.”
Something about today was making him feel like a little kid. It was rather irritating, and he supposed kind of funny in retrospect. But all the blundering really wasn’t too funny now.
“Well, one of my professors told me I would do well here, so I looked it up and this seemed like a pretty good institution, so I applied for an internship. And here I am,” James laughed. “I could have made that sound a little more exciting….Have you worked here for a while?”

"Um, let's see... At most, a month." Angel replied. "A month in and I've already been in a major accident requiring surgery here at Princeton Plainsboro." She added, sighing. "Talk about great first impressions." She said, remembering other first impressions she had made that would go unmentioned.
"It's a very good hospital, and with House as your mentor you're in good hands." She smiled, closing her laptop for the time being. "Just don't let him run you around. He has a tendency to do that, but you didn't hear that from me." She winked.

James nodded, and grinned. “I’ll do my best to remember that advice…you didn‘t give me.” He sat down in the chair by Angel’s desk when she closed her laptop, and tied a shoelace that had come undone over the last hour or so. Kind of like his brain.
“You’re the first person I’ve had a sort of casual conversation with since I got here. Although, I haven’t been here long, so that shouldn’t be surprising.” He shook his head. “Starting out is awkward…”

"Well, the door to my office is always open if you ever need someone to talk to," Angel nodded, glad to make the newbie feel relaxed. "Or vent because House is being a pain in your butt." She knew what House was like. "Yes, starting out is always awkward, but when you make the right connections, you'll find they'll help you along wonderfully."
