"One down, eight to go," Lisa muttered, standing in front of the glass, staring into the nursery of the maternity ward. She had just come from her six-week appointment, and that in itself was incredible. That she'd managed to make it to her sixth week. Try as she might, though, she couldn't bring herself to be happy about it.
She wouldn't be able to be happy about it until she was past the twelve-week mark. Once she'd made it past twelve weeks, she and House could be happy. Unafraid. Past the twelve-week mark, the chance of miscarriage would be significantly lower. And they could spend less time worrying and more time planning their family.
Cuddy raised one hand to the glass, smiling at the dozen or so infants lying in their cribs. Some of them were asleep, others looking around in adorable confusion. One of them seemed to be waving at her, and she chuckled a little. She heard footsteps making their way down the hall, stopping just behind her. The footsteps changed direction, and another reflection appeared next to Cuddy's in the glass.
"Hey," she greeted softly.

Angel remembered that Cuddy had an appointment today, so she had decided to meet up with her friend to see how she and the baby were doing. Part of her was jealous, knowing that she'd never be able to have children, but she kept that part of her hidden, wanting to be a pillar of support for her friend.
"Hey," She replied softly, looking through the window at the newborns laying there. "Just think, one day yours will be in there." She chuckled, her eyes darting over the infants. They looked so beautiful and she felt her heart yearn for one.

Cuddy nodded slowly. Angel's presence was comforting, somehow. Even though her OB/GYN had told her everything was going normally, she was still a bit nervous that something could go wrong. There was still time for that, after all. But since Angel was one of the only four people in the entire hospital privy to the pregnancy, it was good to have her there.
"Yeah," she smiled, turning her head slightly to look at Angel. "Though it's still too early to be able to tell you what color blanket to look for while I'm resting." The statement was accompanied with a small laugh. Her arms moved to wrap themselves around her waist. "I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot more time here."

"I'll get something with a rainbow of colours." Angel smiled, resting a reassuring hand on her friend's shoulder. She could tell Cuddy was still nervous about the pregnancy, and who could fault her? There were many complications that came along with a pregnancy later on in life. None the less though, Angel had extreme confidence that Cuddy would make it through.
"We'll make it our little guilty pleasure." Angel chuckled, glancing over at Cuddy. "We'll take time out of our hectic days to come and stare at the newborns." She nodded, letting Cuddy know she had no problem with meeting her here when they could to stand and look at the little miracles. A faint frown slipped to her lips, but she quickly tried to mask it with a smile.

She chuckled again. "Well, at least the kid will be easy to spot all wrapped up in a rainbow," she commented jokingly, feeling the tension of her pessimistic thoughts weighing heavily in the air. She had to believe that she could get through. She had to tell herself that nothing would happen to her baby. Feeling Angel's hand on her shoulder eased her thoughts somewhat.
Cuddy smiled at that, a slightly wider smile than she'd worn all day. "I wonder if I could get House to come through here sometimes. It would be good for him, I think." Her smile dropped a fraction when she caught the shift in Angel. "Something wrong?" she asked, turning to face her friend fully.

"Your child would be a trend setter for those it's age!" Angel laughed, feeling her slight depression slip away. She didn't want to worry Cuddy with anything other than the things she had to worry about with the baby. "I'm sure you could bribe him to come up here." Angel shrugged. She didn't know House the way Cuddy did, but she was sure it would be like pulling teeth to get him up here with the babies.
When Cuddy inquired whether something was wrong, Angel shifted slightly. How do you tell a friend who's expecting that you can never have kids? It just seemed like such a depressing thing to tell a pregnant woman. "I just got some news the other day..."

Cuddy shook her head softly. "He promised to come to my twelve-week appointment with me, so I might just drag him by when we're done." But then, there was always the chance that she could get him to come down here with her before then. She wouldn't bet all her money on that, though.
Lisa furrowed her brows as Angel shifted. "What sort of news? We're friends, Angel; you know you can tell me anything." She only hoped it wasn't too bad, although from the look on the cardiologist's face, it was pretty bad. No matter, though. Regardless of what news her friend had received, Cuddy would be there for her, just as Angel had been there for her.

"I'm glad that he's at least going to come to the twelve-week appointment." Angel nodded her head, crossing her arms across her chest as she peered back into the nursery. "Just drag him past here a few times. Tell him you have a consult for him or something."
When Cuddy pressed the issue, Angel cast her eyes downwards. "I can't have children." She said, almost too softly. She kept her eyes down, suddenly interested in the floor. She wasn't sure how Cuddy would take the news. "I'm still waiting for the test results back, but House seemed pretty sure."

Cuddy's breath hitched as Angel spoke. She let out her breath in a long sigh, moving one arm up and away from her waist to wrap around Angel's shoulders. What could she say to that? Cuddy knew that nothing she said would change anything, or make Angel feel better. But she had to say something.
"There are...other ways. You could...adopt. If you can't raise your own children, there are dozens of babies that have been abandoned. You could be the second chance for them, and they for you." Adoption hadn't worked out so well for Cuddy, but that didn't matter now because she was having one of her own. But it could still be an option for Angel.

Feeling Cuddy's arm around her shoulder made Angel feel a little better, but she was still rather depressed. "It's a part of life. Whatever the Goddess has in store for me, I accept it." She sighed. "Still sucks though."
She perked up a bit when Cuddy mentioned there were other ways to have children. "Yes, there are plenty of children out there who deserve a second chance." She nodded. She wasn't completely sure whether she could handle going through the adoption steps, but it was always an option.

Nodding serenely and biting her lip, Cuddy looked back at all the newborns waiting to go back to their mothers. Standing here now had lost a bit of the wonder for her. Even though she was still slightly afraid that she could miscarry, there was still the chance that her baby would some day be in that room. Knowing now that Angel would probably never experience that....
"You want to clock out for break, get some coffee?" she asked, unsure of what else to say. "I'm sure you're dying to hear about my appointment..." she trailed off. Cuddy was horrible about flawlessly changing the subject. Which she assumed was okay, because House was perfect at it. "And you can catch me up from your end." Lisa thought it was a pretty fair trade.

Feeling somewhat relieved, Angel looked over at Cuddy. "I'd love some coffee." She smiled. "I'm running on low as is." She chuckled. "Honestly, we need to figure out how to hook coffee up to an IV drip." She knew Cuddy changed the subject on purpose, but was glad that she had. Giving Cuddy a quick hug, she looked back at the infants. "Thanks for listening, and caring."
Putting her hands in her lab coat pockets, she turned towards the elevators. "Hm, what's been going on on my end." She mused. "Wilson and I went on our first date."

Cuddy had to laugh. A caffeine IV drip..."Maybe you could figure something up," she replied. Returning the hug, she nodded a couple times. "That's what friends are for." She knew Angel would have done the same, and she would be the second person Cuddy would call if something happened. Unless House happened to be close by, then Angel would be the first.... But she felt that she didn't need to explain any of that.
Digging her hands into her own lab coat pockets, she followed Angel to the elevators. She cocked an eyebrow and hid a small smile at Angel's words. "Yeah? How did that go?" She pushed the down button to call the elevator and turned her eyes to her friend.

"I can be pretty resourceful." Angel smiled, standing in front of the elevator doors. "I could always do like what Hawkeye did on MASH. Serve coffee through an IV, instead of gin like they did." She laughed, shaking her head. She wondered if Cuddy would get that reference, MASH being an old tv show after all that Cuddy may have never seen it. "Best friends, cause we already know too much about each other." Angel winked.
"It went really well." She blushed, memories of their dinner coming back to her. "He actually spent the night at my place after the Valentine's Day Masque." She was certain to leave out that she kinda figured that Cuddy would have gone over to House's apartment. She also left the sentence hanging, wondering what Cuddy would think.

Cuddy raised an eyebrow at the reference, turning to glance at Angel. Of course, she didn't quite get it, having not watched a lot of television growing up. Even when she was younger, she was too focused on her work. Maybe House had been right to get after her the other day... Deciding not to say anything either way about the odd comment, she smiled at Angel's next words.
"Yeah. Way too much about each other. But I suppose that's part of why House asked you to be godmother." The elevator doors slid open and Cuddy stepped forward, pausing before entering the car.
"He stayed with you? You didn't do anything either of you would regret, did you?" she asked, always the concerned friend. She knew that she was probably over-reacting to the situation, but what else was she supposed to do? Cuddy had suggested that Angel and Wilson slow down, and she didn't want to see them end up regretting their involvement with each other.
